What a celebrationSee all the photos from this link Special eventsIt seems that we always have something special going on: Epiphany and renewal of baptism in January United Methodist Women's Valentine boxes for college students and military personnel United Methodist Men’s Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper to raise funds for their annual scholarship to a student pursuing vocational or technical education Ash Wednesday service Lenten Wednesday Night Soup Suppers and devotions—the past three years we have focused on Lenten and Easter themes in movies: Chocolat; The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; and this year, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Palms to Passion Sunday with palm branches and an “interactive” hearing of the complete story of Jesus’ passion Holy Week: Maundy Thursday foot washing Dinner in the tradition of the Jewish Seder, concluding with communion Good Friday Tenebrae (service of increasing darkness), concluding with stripping of the altar Easter: Sunrise service at a park near the church Easter breakfast prepared and served by the United Methodist Men Celebration of the Resurrection worship Camp Sunday: our campers design and lead worship, giving witness to the way they encounter Christ at camp. Brownie Sundaes are served during fellowship hour with free-will donations for camp scholarships received United Methodist Men cook and serve the United Methodist Women's Guest Day Luncheon in May Celebration of high school and college graduates and presentation of Bibles to third graders Confirmation on alternate years Summer activities: Special music from soloists and ensembles each Sunday Campers attend age level program camps, family camps, adult special interest camps, off-site Worship at Chapel in the Pines, Island Park All-church rummage sale Worship and potluck picnic at park near church Community Vacation Bible School in cooperation with area churches Men’s Retreat in Island Park Sack lunch program for children and families during three weeks school district closes New Christian Education programming begins in September includes Sunday School for preschool through adult, Disciple Bible Study, Companions in Christ, and other studies Eastern Idaho State Fair consumes Blackfoot in September. We earn money for scholarships by parking cars. United Methodist Women’s Christmas Bazaar with lots of homemade goodies and crafts and salad luncheon in early November Consecration dinner celebrating our stewardship campaign in November Advent: Blessing of the nativities Wise Men tableau at live nativity at Jensen’s Grove Community Christmas Choir Festival Children’s Christmas Program Choir cantata (alternate years with Easter) Christmas boxes for hungry in cooperation with Blackfoot Ministerial Association Christmas Eve services Early evening for children and their adults—interactive telling of nativity story Mid-evening and late-night services of carols, candlelight, and communion Christmas morning come-as-you-are communion |
